Trans Rebuild

I used the Level 10 trans rebuild kit. Its supposed to be the best on the market. I found it to be extremely pricey, around $700.00. It was very complete though. As of 11-19-200 I have only 1500 miles and around 9 -  1/4 runs on it so I can't tell you how well it's holding up. What I can tell you is that the shift feeling is quite different from stock. It's hard to put into words but it shifted firmer/faster without the jolt I had with the stock clutches

I found it extremely satisfying to rebuild my own trans and have it actually work. Hands on is the ONLY way to go with your own ride...

Only a small mess and was easily cleaned up.

This assembly weighed a ton! And the transfer case made it extremely awkward when using a standard 2 ton jack. I highly recommend that you rent or buy a transmission jack.

There's the Precision Industries Vigilante 9" 3000 RPM stall converter.

Here's a view of the flywheel without the trans.

This is the crud after 9000 hard miles. I'm not sure if this is a lot or not.

There was little wear on the clutches and band once I got it apart.

This was the only thing I found wrong with the trans, it was a torn seal on the overrun clutch piston. Although this has no direct connection to the 2-3 shift flare, it indirectly effects the trans from a fluid  pressure loss.

The trans still had a small 2-3 flare after rebuild until I installed the corvette servo assembly.

You can barely see the broken seal while the piston was still in the trans.

Parts are parts....

Eat your heart out guys...Would your wife let you rebuild your trans on your kitchen island? The lighting and air conditioning was a must!

Final assembly. I just carried it out to the garage and bolted it to the the transfer case. I'm not sure how much it weighs but it wasn't difficult at all to carry out.

Just lifting the trans/transfer case up.

I did the entire job by myself on my back! I did think a couple of times I was going to kill myself when the assembly shifted on me - GET A TRANS JACK if you do this yourself!
